Villa Pantalemi
Villa Pantalemi stands on the spot where the ancient Greek village of Pantalemi once stood, by the Alcantara river. There's nothing left of that village but the occasional shard of pottery ploughed up by a farmer.
This is a beautiful area, in the natural reserce of the 'Parco Fluviale dell'Alcantara'.
Just like in the olden times, the apartment is on the first floor; the ground floor is used for storing wine, olive oil and other produce.
But the house is certainly more up-to-date than its ancient surroundings: there is a comfortable living-room with French windows to a small balcony, and an adjoining kitchen. In the living room you'll find satellite TV and a DVD home-theatre system.
There is also a spacious bedroom with a king-size bed, which also has French windows leading to another balcony. From both these balconies you can see the Ionian sea, some 8 kilometers away. There is also a bathroom containing a shower, toilet, bidet and sink.
You can get lots of r and r on the terrace, which catches the sun, but is also partly covered by grapevines. The big orange and lemon tree orchards also offer places to relax, and even barbecue.
The ground floor is sometimes used by the older couple Leonardo and Enza, who live in the next village. When they have work to do in the orange grove they take a nap or bake a bread in the afternoon. Like many sicilians they lived in Australia for a while so you certainly can talk with them, if you wish!
There is electricity, gas to cook on, hot and cold running water, which is drinkable, and a washing machine. You only have to bring towels for personal use.
