Casakiwi
About 8 kilometers inland from Giardini Naxos, in the direction of Francavilla di Sicilia, is a huge arched bridge in the Roman style, over which a slow train used to chug.
Under the bridge is a baker who still bakes bread in a wood-stoked oven.
Behind the bridge is the valley of ‘San Cataldo’, which continues for miles inland up into the mountains, at the end of which a family of shepherds live.
No one lives between the baker and the shepherds, except for the occupants of this house, Casakiwi. It’s a small, cosy, renovated farmhouse with a large living room and adjoining kitchen downstairs (with airco). Upstairs are two bedrooms and a bathroom, which contains a shower, toilet, bidet and sink. One of the bedrooms has a king size bed, the other two single beds.
Outside at the front is a large terrace with stunning views into the distance.
The terrace is completely covered by grape vines that offer protection from the Sicilian sun.
This house affords complete peace and quiet, as well as privacy and fantastic walks around and about.
And why is the house called Casakiwi? Because once there was a small kiwi plantation here.
There is electricity, gas to cook on, hot and cold running water, which is drinkable, and a washing machine. You only have to bring towels for personal use.
