Cuballino
Between the towns of Francavilla di Sicilia and Castiglione di Sicilia, the small river ‘Alcantara’ winds around the footslopes of Etna, fed by the melted snow which covers the vulcano from the end of December until the end of May.
In the surrounding countryside are orchards, principally made up of hazelnut trees, and vinyards.
The landscape appears to stretch out endlessly between the hills, disected by a labyrinth of small tracks.
In the middle lie the ruins of a 6th century Byzantian church, la Cuba Bizantina.
This house, Cuballino, adjoins the ruins, and is named after the church and the Italian word ‘villino’, meaning ‘little house with a garden’.
In the garden there's a nice 5mt round pool for a refreshing plunge in the summer months.There are no other houses nearby; for those who love peace and quiet, and want privacy, this is a perfect place. There is also a large amount of private land with the house, where not only hazelnut, but many other sorts of fruit trees, grow.
The small old farmhouse had fallen into disrepair, and has now been renovated into a lovely little bungalow with a large living room with adjoining kitchen, and two bedrooms; one with a king size bed, and the other with two single beds. The bathroom is fitted with everything you will need.
In front of the house is a large terrace of about 50m2 and Etna’s mighty presence is always in view.
There is electricity, gas to cook on (there is even an old pizza oven), hot and cold running water, which is pure and drinkable, and a washing machine. You only need to bring towels for personal use with you.
